South Carolina Ordinance of Secession

Members of the seceding South Carolina delegation who unanimously passed an ordinance of secession, thus severing the state's ties to the United States, on December 20, 1860. The state convention in South Carolina was called after the election of Republican Abraham Lincoln to the presidency. South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union.
