Battle of Châlons

In this 19th-century engraving, Attila the Hun fights the Visigoths on the Catalaunian Plains of Gaul. In 450 BCE, Attila turned his attention to Gaul. Roman general Aetius Flavius assembled an army of various European tribes in addition to his Roman forces to match Attila's army. After several victorious battles, the Huns were defeated at the Battle of Châlons in 451.
