Pawnee lodges

Pawnee lodges at Loup, Nebraska ca. 1873. The Pawnee were members of the Caddoan family and the oldest of the Great Plains tribes. The Pawnee tended to ally with European powers during conflicts with Native Americans and became some of the first western Indians to serve as U.S. Army scouts.
