William Johnson



William Johnson, British Superintendent of Indian Affairs in the American colonies, 1755-1774. Johnson concluded the Treaty of Fort Stanwix with the Iroquois, persuading them to relinquish claims to territory along the frontiers of New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, clearing the way for European-American immigration in these areas.
