
| One of the most distinguished public servants in U.S. history, General George Catlett Marshall was chief of staff of the U.S. Army during World War II and was widely recognized as the "Organizer of Victory." During the Cold War he served as both secretary of state and secretary of defense. He is remembered for implementing the Marshall Plan for the recovery of postwar Western Europe, which won him the Nobel Prize for Peace. |
