
| General Douglas MacArthur enjoyed a long and distinguished army career but was also one of the most controversial soldiers in U.S. history. MacArthur commanded the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II. President Harry S. Truman appointed MacArthur to head the United Nations Command during the Korean War but then dismissed him for insubordination, a decision that was correct but widely unpopular at the time. |
