The ruins of Lidice, Czechoslovakia, following its destruction by the Germans. After the death of the deputy chief of the Gestapo, Reinhard Heydrich, as a result of an ambush by Czech civilian partisans, the Nazis unleashed a retaliation campaign against the Czech civilian populace.
