Douglas MacArthur signs Japanese surrender



General Douglas MacArthur, supreme allied commander, signs the Japanese surrender documents officially ending World War II on 2 September 1945, aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. The U.S. military occupied Japan until 1952.
