David Silbey received his PhD from Duke University and is an Associate Professor of Military History at Alvernia College in Reading, Pennsylvania, where he teaches courses on modern military history, guerilla conflicts, and the role of popular will in waging war. Additionally, he has taught at Bowdoin College, Duke University, and North Carolina State University.

Silbey's works include the ABC-CLIO books Personal Perspectives: World War I, as a contributor in chapters on British Indian Soldiers, and Personal Perspectives: World War II, as a contributor in chapters on Japanese American soldiers. His current research project is on the western intervention in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900–1901.
